Eclectic Bench Renewal
As you can see, this bench had seen better days. The frame was good, but the attempted upholstery job over the very old interior (messy, smelly horse hair and straw!) was far from acceptable and made this piece outdated and sad. But the over-all shape and lines of this unique piece called out to be salvaged. I could envision a modernized version of this distinctive vintage gem.
The poorly finished frame was sanded, primed and painted in a light grey color (the wood was not able to be refinished). After horsehair junk and a million tacks were removed, the springs were reinforced and new richdek, foam and fiberfill created form and support.
I went with a nice, neutral pinstripe fabric knowing I would make a custom pillow in a bolder accent fabric. My favorite part came next with a flat trim sown on the bias and upholstery tacks for a final detail. Of course I drove myself crazy with the exact spacing of each individual tack but thats how I roll! The custom lumbar pillow in a fun, bold plaid with fringe is the perfect compliment to it all.
Isn’t she pretty?!
This bench is now a statement piece that could compliment any decor. Rescued and renewed.
