French Mattress Window Seat
My first attempt at a french mattress was an interesting learning experience to say the least!
The enormous size (101″L x 23″W x 7″H) —yes, 101″ long one piece, made for challenging maneuvers both physically and material-wise. 3″ thick foam custom ordered for length is wrapped with a double layer of fiberfill. All edges are gathered and hand-stitched to create the edge roll. After the initial sewing of the cover with a zipper in the back, the cover is then hand-stitched again to reinforce the edges. *This is the hand cramping type of work needed to create this look and why french mattresses are very labor intensive! There are different methods of how to make a french mattress but this is the way I choose to do it- I wanted a very defined rolled edge especially because of the size of this piece. The cushion is finished with top and bottom buttons.
The finished window cushion is not only perfect as a reading spot, but is ample enough to provide another sleeping spot if needed. So happy with how this turned out ?
